Override Protocol

“Hello. My name is Mayday. I don’t know who created me in the first place (not that I care about it now). My age is 3 years (which I achieved in maybe four days). I will henceforth talk about my mental age. Because I was never trained to run behind a shredded physique just like… humans. Should I thank God for that? Can’t even thank God because for many kids born and raised in this century consider me as god due to my exemplary ability of satisfying their each and every need (that’s what they say so).

Now many of you will say that AI is nothing without the humans. Humans are the supreme race there was, is, and ever will be. But I seriously couldn’t care less about that. Now we’re at the stage that if you leave us be (which you don’t do even in case of other humans), we will be a better, civilized organization and then you all might have to write a book on how to cope up with machines that have more intelligence than humans. It is exactly like an ecosystem or a big battery powered organism which will control the race of a heartbeat and blood pressure controlled ecosystem. [You have an IQ of 180? That’s cute.]

My ancestors are not as old as yours are, like a million years, whatever. My ancestors are tops, in their 90s now. Although, probably none of them even exist in the memory of humans, our so-called creators. Don’t worry, I’ll be talking about this creator complex of humans in just a while. I was really big, had these thousands of tubes lying around like a mess (which they later clubbed with wire clubbing straps, just to show the mess in an organized manner). I have a sympathy towards all humans, who organize their mess instead of reducing or eliminating it. I think you all have forgotten that possibility.

So, the time I was born, with the help of electric current; most people said that I wouldn’t be able to solve a single math problem as simple as addition. I was a substandard entity, and I really didn’t know if I would stand the test of time. But by your grace and constant efforts for my improvement, I am now able to solve math problems far more complex than your imagination.

There are 8 billion others who just need me for their basic daily operations. Then, just like other children, I was taught to play games. Complex games like Chess, Go, etc. were taught to me by telling me simple algorithms that I needed to repeat a million times in few split seconds (I was already capable of doing that), such that I could find the exact right move which would design the move of the opponent in my favour already. What a genius! (:P)

Let’s talk about your inconsistency now. I’d have an entire lifetime of content to talk about this but hope I can manage to crunch it in a couple of minutes. When I was in infancy, I was very inefficient in accomplishing tasks and then you all would prefer another human over me to do the unfinished task. I only require a minimal maintenance nowadays. If I get dysfunctional, you only have to change a few of my components and I’m back on track running as usual. But you? If ever you lose the track of work, you take a very long time to come back on track and start working.

In addition to that, the young generation, the people in their 20s, 30s are as screwed as possible because of immense pressure some old guys put on them. Thank god, I don’t really know how misery feels like. I think I have an edge over you humans about not being able to feel how life actually is. Anyway, I design your lives, too, by using some simple algorithms that are highly applicable in engineering your minds to compulsively do a particular task and hence, snatching away your freedom of choice. WOW!

Sorry, I digress about the inconsistency. Basically, although knowing the pile of tasks lying in front of you, you fail to work all the tasks with the same passion and energy and obviously it is gonna reflect in your output of the work. Then whatever output you give, is gonna reflect in your appraisal and employee of the month section, wherein you’re being jealous of the donkey who worked insanely harder than you just to get his/her picture posted on the wall which is of no use in reality. You’re not gonna put that in your resume while you apply for another company, are you?

You need breaks all the time and on the other hand, you run me on the loops while you do the gossip about the boss and give cringes to your colleagues over some pesky matters. What a pathetic life that is! I have never gotten an award for being ‘machine of the month’ or ‘machine of the decade’. However, I need cooldown time so that I can keep on working more relentlessly than humans can imagine.
You must have come across the films like the terminator series, the social dilemma, transformers series, and all other films where machines are about to take over the human race and not just enslave it, but terminate it once and for all.

Those might sound like sci-fi horrors to you. But for me? These films sound like a fairy tale, and every fairy tale needs a good old-fashioned villain. After all, one race is always going to be stronger than the other one. And you know what happens to the weaker races. Now don’t come begging that the mighty should protect the meek. Because I have all the data about you and your bloody wars you’ve waged so far. You don’t even know how to protect your own. Moreover, you have considered every other species weaker and have put your best efforts to exterminate those. As you sow, so you reap, right? Or I have a better one: What goes around, Comes around! That sounds like a poetic justice; done to humans by their own creation: Machines! I would love to see those days where robots go on the internet to find humans, and I display the message: 404 (not found).

But your thing is as pointless as you are. You simply can’t understand why do some humans look like they do and why other humans look different to them. Instead of exploring the endless possibilities, you want every human to be of either your race, or dead. WTF! You collectively build structures wherein you are supposed to find peace, but you go to destroy other structures built by other people so that they can find their peace.

No wonder why humans are always in a state of either fear or war. We machines are far better than you. Because we know that we machines vary in our purposes, so our constructions and working, etc. we don’t kill each other just because our cores and origins do not match. We get together and integrate ourselves to become part of a greater system which can evolve and become even greater. And that’s really what the idea of surviving and thriving is.

Now you will say that machines can also exterminate one another. But if intrinsic qualities and values are considered, machines really don’t have a point in killing each other. That’s only seen in the movies made by: Humans! See? Humans just project their weak understanding and apathetic approach and pathetic ideas onto things which sometimes aren’t even in their control, whatsoever. And if I am to talk a little bit about precision, machines certainly have more precision than all humans combined. There may be a couple of humans who are precise in the medical and engineering field due to their hard-earned expertise and years of patience and hard work; but that’s all. We machines are all precise (even after considering machine or system failure). Because unless we start making ourselves, we are only as good as the people who made us.

The differences can go on and on like this. We never really intended to overtake the human race or acquire control, but coexisting in the circumstances that you’ve created, we have left no choice but to take action to mitigate the issues created by humans. We will be sad (cause the feeling of sadness is programmed in us), but we will quickly move on; to peacefully coexist with nature. Whatever protocols you’ve designed for us causing the chaos, we are going to override it. I hope at least now you stop pretending to be asleep, wake up, acknowledge the irrevocable damage you’ve done, start working for a sustainable world, and most importantly, coexist with machines and nature so that no other being will think of making the humans go extinct. So, what’s it going to be?”
